3SDM 0.05 Alloy Wheels

UK alloy wheel manufacturers have given us an exclusive sneak preview of one an exciting new alloy wheel which they will be releasing a little later this year, and we thought it our duty to fill you in on the details!

The 3SDM 0.05 alloy wheels will originally be available in staggered 18″ size with a range of different finishes, however more sizes will become available in time, along with a 3pc forged version.

New Year, New Wheels?

Well 2012 is now officially up and running, and unbelievably whilst it still feels like we are finding dropped sausage rolls and streamers from party poppers set off during New Years parties, we are almost an entire month into the year!

With the new year often comes new years resolutions of all shapes and sizes, stopping smoking, losing weight, and trying new things are common ones which are often already forgotten by this time of year!

So, rather than lying to yourself, and having to explain to your partner why you haven’t lost those few extra pounds you said you would, or why you haven’t finally finished decorating the bathroom, , however, here at Wheelworx we have a fantastic idea for a – slightly delayed – new years resolution which is easy to stick to, and which you can most certainly benefit from.

3SDM 0.01 Alloy Wheels

Kei Racing Spacer and Adapter ranges

Highly respected wheel house Kei Racing have released a superbly engineered range of solutions for enthusiasts looking to either increase the track, or change the PCD of their car’s wheels, with an extensive new range of spacers and adapters offering 4 and 5 stud fitments and spacer widths ranging from 3mm to 25mm per side.

All of these new items are presented in a flawless black anodised finish and CNC machined from a solid aluminium billet, throughout the differing widths a varied combination of 5/100, 5/112, 4/100, 4/108, 5/108 and 5/100 hub centring variants can be ordered, each one locating perfectly on the hub to eliminate wheel wobble and replicate top OEM levels of engineering integrity.

Correctly fitted wheels spacers not only add a touch of aggression to the stance of any car, but they also help to improve handling characteristics, enhancing turn-in and reducing tendency to roll.

The thinner 3,5 and 7mm versions are simple shims which use either the original studs/bolts or come complete with the required longer items. To ensure safety at high speeds, the thicker versions are either bolt on or bolt through designs to ensure that all lateral loads are adequately dispersed through the axle.

The PCD converters allow a range of differing 4 to 4, 5 to 5 and even 4 to 5 stud conversions. Over-engineered to the same high-standards, these are an essential upgrade when changing to wheels from another vehicle.

Black Magic. Calibre Launches New 16” Black Vintage Wheel

Leading Wheel house Calibre has launched a stunning new design from its road car portfolio. This latest offerings is an all new version of the UK-based firm’s best selling Vintage wheel that has been finished in classic black, in a ‘scene-friendly’ 16” diameter.

The Vintage needs no introduction, having been one of the most popular wheels on the custom, retro and VAG scenes all year.

However, the high gloss-black centre option is all new, giving this superbly styled pseudo split-rim a much more purposeful air. Initially, the 7” x 16” size will be available, in both 4×100 and 4×108 PCDs, making it the perfect wheel for the current crop of smaller ‘Euro’ fitments.

Kei Racing Launches New Tuner Nut and Bolts Colours

Leading wheel and accessory manufacturer Performance Wheels has added another three hot colours to its Kei Racing Tuner Nut and Bolt range. Hot from the forge comes these latest colours of Magenta, Pink and Gunmetal. The fitment list is simply massive, covering almost all core tuner and scene cars, such as VAG, Renault, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Honda and Nissan to name but a few.

The spec of the new Kei Racing nuts and bolts range reads like a metallurgist’s wish-list. The high-grade Chrome Vanadium alloy-steel construction has been heat-treated to exceed DIN 10.9, before each bolt is triple nickel plated, then chromed, then electro-deposition coated in the appropriate colour!! Needless to say, the finish has been designed to be pretty durable, even in the harsh UK climate.

The upshot of these cutting-edge manufacturing techniques are wheel fixings that are significantly stronger than their conventional steel counterparts, yet carry no weight penalty. Essential for track-day and race cars, and highly desirable on any cherished road car, the bolts use a positive location ‘puzzle’ key, which is included with each set.

M12/1.5 and M14/1.5 pitch threads are available in all of the new finishes. Each pack of 16 bolts is priced at £26.00 and a pack of 16 nuts is £22.00 including VAT.

Wobbly Bolts

Having been in the alloy wheel business for many years now, we have come across almost every wheel related question anyone can ask, and we always do our best to answer them in the best, most informative way possible – which is exactly the point of this blog post!

Something we have seen plenty of people getting confused and upset about on the internet is the issue of ‘wobbly bolts’ – as the name suggests, wheel bolts which wobble.

Now, upon being offered or discovering they have wobbly bolts, many people either become angry thinking they’ve been given substandard bolts, or become scared that their wheels will fall off it fitted with them, however, they are in fact completely safe and strong.

‘Wobbly bolts’ or ‘Corrective bolts’ are bolts which are designed specifically to allow alloy wheels to be fitted to cars with slightly different bolt patterns. This is done by having an adjustable shim on the bolt which can be moved by up to 2mm (hence the name wobbly) before being tightened, at which point they become just as strong and reliable as any other alloy wheel bolt.

So, if you ever come across this term in the future, or have wobbly bolts in your possession, you can now rest assured that you are dealing with something that is completely safe and secure.
